A SoCal Classic!
It gets crowded but what can you do? It's a fun hike to the summit no matter which way you choose!

Adventure 16 3-Peak Challenge!
Climbed this as part of the Adventure 16 3-Peak Challenge. I hiked Mount San Antonio, Mount San Gorgonio, and Mount San Jacinto in three days (nearly 41 miles). Very challenging! For this first peak, I camped at Manker Flat then hiked up the fairly steep and strenuous Ski Hut Trail in very hot weather. I then managed to get stung by a bee in the armpit at the summit! Overall, an excellent hike.

My 12th summit
Went up the Bear Canyon Trail, down the Ski Hut Trail, then got a ride from Manker Flat back to my car in the Village.

Devils Backbone
Nice day with my dad and brother. Took a bit longer as my dad hikes a bit slower these days but for a 78 year old person I think that's ok! Nice to get out.
Hiked to the summit via Devil's Backbone under perfect weather conditions, alongside wounded veterans and others climbing to raise money for injured veterans through The Heroes Project. Met and spoke with Tim Medvetz from Discovery Channel's Everest: Beyond the Limit who founded The Heroes Project. Awesome guy doing awesome things!
My first attempt via Bear Canyon took too long, so I turned around.
I went straight up Baldy Bowl this time. Good fun in the sun and snow.

Cali double
A perfectly sunny and beautiful day for a hike with my friend Rachel. We took the devils backbone route after stopping at the Baldy Notch. Decided to bag Harwood on the way back.
Quite a bit easier and much more straight forward than lots of the info I had read prior to going..Stayed in t-shirt at the summit it was so calm and comfortable. Great views everywhere, including Catalina Island - despite the distinct layer of smog enshrouding LA down below..

the Loop
In May hiked the Backbone to the Bowl. In october hiked the Bowl to the Backbone. Love this mountain. Quite steep for the duration of the hike, yet short enough in distance and elevation that it is a pleasant day hike...

Frequent this Training Peak
Since Mt Baldy is local to me it's a great training peak that I frequent throughout the year from snow conditions to dry conditions.
The day after I hiked San Jacinto. Only one at the peak.

Up Baldy Bowl past the ski hut, down via Devil's Backbone. Could see Catalina Island rising above the fog layer to the west!

fire road to notch then up Devil's backbone
Due to fresh snowfall, the scenic chair lift rides to the notch were closed for the day despite my having called ahead a few days before and being assured that they would be operating. Oh well, I guess me and my brothers Guy & Eric can say we earned it more that way. We hiked in fresh snow all the way from the parking lot and summited Mt. Harwood on the way up. We only saw four other hikers (backpackers) above the notch.
