"Got tight last night on absinthe and did knife tricks. Great success shooting the knife into the piano. The woodworms are so bad and eat hell out of all furniture that you can always claim the woodworms did it."

Class 2 gullySnow dusting surrounding peaks, fall color, and one of the most insane forest roads I've ever encountered. 4x4 is the most sane option when driving.

Lavender ColWe started way up at 12460' which felt like cheating a little bit, so we decided to throw in "Kismet" and Cirque. Several hours on the talus and we decided to give it up. Gorgeous area, and I'll certainly be back for Teakettle and Gilpin!

Chilling StartDriving up Yankee Boy Basin, we were stopped by a number of emergency vehicles ahead on the shelf road. At first, we thought it was search and rescue; then the coroner's vehicle pulled up behind. My understanding is that it was a fireworks-related incident from the night before, where a young man was running to get away from a lit fuse and fell off the shelf. As for the hike, we had large group that then split into three groups. I took the younger kids and we safely made it to about 13,400 ft.

Mt. SneffelsBeautiful drive up, nice wildflowers at the beginning of the hike. Great views from the top, especially of the Blue Lakes. Somewhat annoying scree climb, but overall awesome 14er.

East slopes from Blaine BasinThe intention was to do the Snake, but we settled on the east slopes, joining the standard route at Lavender Col. Blaine Basin is an amazing place to visit.

snowclimb & ski descentof the birthday (south) chutes. Due to our desire to get off the summit quickly due to high winds, the upper part of the ski descent was still scary frozen mini-suncups, but the snow was soft lower down.
