It's appropriate that you maintain this page, Jon, and you did a great job retooling it!

Ryan,

Thanks for the vote. I don't know if my ownership of Sopris makes me a qualified maintainer for the page but I do have a softspot for the mountain.

The reason I named my Sopris, "Sopris", was that when I got her (she was 10 months old) she was called by her former owner (who kept her locked in a garage... where she aparently got into endless trouble. She supposedly ate a box of nails) "Buffy"... That just wouldn't do... I have spent a lot of time in Glenwood Spring growing up and I had always liked that mountain visible from the west end of town... I tried "Sopris" on her and she responded to it all on her own. I usualy pronounce it as "so-prie" using the more formal "so-pris" when she is in trouble... The summer after I got her we climbed the mountain together.

Happy Holidays

saintgrizzly,

Thank you very much for the vote. The compliment on my photos is much appreciated too. I didn't take either of the featured photographs however so please don't compliment me on them... But I am glad you like the page. I am somewhat proud of it as this mountain page lingered in neglect for quite some time.

Cheers,

Jon

Great page Jon. The geology and history sections, along with their excellent links are very useful and interesting. Great route info as well. It was nice of the USGS to name the peak after your dog.

Nelson,

Your opinion I value highly. I am glad you like the page. I actualy had a lot of fun with the Sopris page because I researched it back when I named my dog. My oldest brother got me hooked on comparative photographic studies a few years back (as that is part of what he does for the US forest service) so I have poured endlessly over the DPL's photo collection. I wasn't sure if this would be appreciated on SP but I dig it. I am glad you find it interesting.

PS. my dog came to me with the moniker "Buffy" (although her original shot papers listed her as "Cleo") Whatever the case she cocked her head at me the first time I said Sopris (I also tried Teocalli but she ignored that).

Thanks Jon. I put some historical photos in the bibliography section of my Kangchenjunga page. They were not universally appreciated judging from the votes. Still, some people liked them. I think the ones who didn't are missing out on really interesting stuff, and yet another way to appreciate the mountains. Their loss, I'd say. I was not aware of that DPL collection before this, so thanks for that.

Kenzo,

Thank you so much for your kind words! Sopris is a mountain I am deeply attached to, indeed my dog is named after it. I have always admired your beautiful photographs on SP. I hope your winter is going well brother.
