First Time
My first time going up Tallac for my climbing partner's birthday...it was a rough and steep climb for me, but I was successful and it was a rewarding climb. I have been up five times since...one of my favorite climbs in Tahoe.

Long Day
Decided to do a long day, started at the Tallac trailhead and headed to the peak then out to Aloha. From Aloha I headed south to Echo Summit and down a VERY steep trail to Fallen Leaf where some folks were nice enough to give me a ride back to my car...

Finishing a long loop around from Pyramid. Found a trail on the way down, which doesn't appear on my topo, which ends on the fire road at the Glen Alpine parking area. Trip report.

Early season from Glen Alpine
From Glen Alpine, tough to follow the trail above 7500 feet due to snow cover so just went cross country up the slope to the summit. Gilmore Lake still frozen over. Trip report is HERE

Spring Creek, Bowl Direct
Hiked Spring Creek Road. Approach through forest and manzanita to the foot of the bowl wasn't that bad. Wasn't able to gain the NE ridge due to low snow coverage. Hiked directly up bowl, super tiring but made it. Snowboard ride down through untracked soft corn snow was amazing. Hike from the foot of the bowl to car was horrendous. Full trip report available http://beachyadventures.blogspot.com/2014/03/mount-tallac-snowboarding.html

North Ridge via Cascade Lake
Climbed this route with a team of seven from the Bayview trailhead. Steep and direct and has some fun class 2-3 scrambling along the way. To make it even more interesting we parked a few cars at Spring Creek road and descended the NE ridge after we reached the top. About a 7.5 mile round trip.

Mount Tallac Trail
Georgous autumn colours, a cute little black bear just 5 metres beside the trail and spectacular views over Lake Tahoe... what else do you want

Mt. Tallac Summit
I will start by saying this is a moderately difficult climb. Much tougher than Freel Peak, Jobs Sister, or Mt. Rose. However, the lower elevation does help, and it really isn't that tough if you take away a couple of steep sections and the last 1/4 mile to the summit. I did this hike with a group of 8 other people (6 women) and it took anywhere from 3 to 4.5 hours to reach the top for this group. The views along the way and at the summit are as good as any peak I have been on in the Tahoe Basin (which is 14 out of the 19 prominent peaks). The views back into the Desolation Wilderness are excellent, as you can see several peaks and many many lakes. If you want to pick one good hike in the Tahoe Basin...this one won't disappoint. The trailhead is just 1 mile off highway 89 directly opposite Baldwin Beach.
Have done the Mt. Tallac trail as well as Glen Alpine. The road to Glen Alpine is kind of a joke. VERY popular hike, but the views from the top justify it. The Tallac trail is shorter, Glen Alpine more scenic.
