Backpack  Sucess!

After dropping our car at Pyramid Creek TH, we got a ride over to Fallen Leaf Lake and started our 3-day traverse from the Tallac TH. With light weekend packs we made it up to Tallac to enjoy the sunset. We then hiked by headlamp down to Gilmore Lake and set up for the night. Over the next two days we bagged Dicks, Jacks, Price, Agassiz, & Pyramid before making it back to our car.

Great lake views  Sucess!

Have climbed this a handful of times in summer and winter. It is always magical up there. Great ski trip. Summer can be busy up there. The small rocks were too rough for my dogs pads.

Mt Tallac  Sucess!

Beautiful views, excellent weather. Snow encountered from around 7200 feet. Above 8000 feet patches of snow and patches without snow. On one segment about two thirds of the way up, snow was melting next to the boulders and then there was a steep drop off on the left, making the climb a little hairy. Many others were climbing without crampons, but I found their use invaluable on that segment.

It's A Scramble  Sucess!

I started out along the shores of Fallen Leaf Lake and bushwacked up the mountainside until I connected with the trail and ascended from there. 2.5 hours to summit and 2.0 hours back down. Tons of people up there and what a beautiful day and climb !

Long trip from Lake Aloha  Sucess!

Was camping with some friends in Lake Aloha region and decided to go for a "nice little day hike." Not the best idea I've ever had, but the view from the summit was epic. Can't wait to go back in winter conditions!

Still some snow up there  Sucess!

With NorCal Women Adventurers. There is still snow in the bowl, most people were going up the edge of the snow in just shoes. I brought microspikes just in case but ended up going up the talus on the side of the snow for the first half, then going up the snow when it got a little wider. There is some more snow coverage past the bowl that obscures good portions of the trail. But if you have a map (and can see the summit, really) you can get there pretty easily. Took us about 3.5 hours to get to the summit, about three hours down. Went through 4L of liquid, warm day! Views were pretty great, you can see Desolation is still pretty socked in. Saw a marmot, ground squirrels, and a hawk dive-bombing an eagle in a tree.

My first Tahoe peak  Sucess!

This was my first Tahoe peak. Tiring but loved it! Got a nasty sunburn, and I still don't think I've learned my lesson two years later. :) We saw a bear near the trailhead as we started.

Climbed this with my dad at some point when I was growing up. It felt like a great adventure at the time. I remember being fascinated by the views into the Desolation Wilderness.
