Kamikaze Falls
Cool forested ridge and enjoyable trail grade above the falls.

360
Came up the falls and down the logging roads.
Snow on top but a nice clear sunny day. Great 360

Perfection
Followed the South Ridge/Kamikaze Falls route. Weather was perfect- cool, windy, and cloudy with a high ceiling. Had the summit to myself for half an hour. Views in all directions were phenomenal. Three thigh burning hours up, 65 minutes down.

Came back to finish
I had to return to do those last 200 vertical feet to the summit. Just as much snow this time but we didn't turn around. Up Kamikaze Falls and down the road. We could see that WTA is working on building a new trail with lots of switchbacks.

Multiple Routes Over The Years
My first visit to the summit was in March on 1994. It was seldom visited back then. Very little information existed.

Awesome
What a great hike! The crowds are non-existent and the view was incredible. We got up to the top around 10 am and had a nice view down at the top of 'Mt. Sighh' as well as the rest of the corridor and beyond. Bug spray is a must at the top!
Have done in both snow and summer. The drop from the summit is spectacular. Compared to Si, Teneriffe is quite isolated with limited activity. If you go solo can't count on outside help. Did the traverse to Si in the summer with a friend. Tremendous views of Rainier along the way. We had two cars which simplified things.

A little of everything...
We went up the "Kamikaze Falls" (Southwest Ridge) route and down the standard (road) route, with an in-between journey to the summits of nearby Dixie Peak. All-in-all, we probably did 14-15 miles of mountaineering today.
I had heard the views from the summit of Mount Teneriffe are breathtaking, and those are VERY accurate statements.

the ultimate training hike
with EastKing. a very tough day, this mountain deserves your respect! this is what it was like to climb a mountain in the old days before forest roads got you a mile or two from the summit. 7 miles up!

Third time is the charm
Made it on my third try by the road/trail. I like the ridge scramblers trail route past Kamakazie falls better. The Teneriffe/ Si traverse is fun but walking the road back to the school bustop is not!

Lots of Snow
Lots of sun and lots of snow. Snowshoes a must. Did the Teneriffe Road which made this a LONG trip (14 miles) but well worth it. TR coming soon.
Did an impromptu bushwack to find the route in the snow

Kamikaze Falls
I like these lesser developed trails. This was an OSAT conditioner. The ridge top section was fun and steep in parts. Lots of snow and ice near top. The students we were leading got scared so we turned around right below the summit.

First one - the Loooong Way
My first trip up was an OSAT snow hike with Jim, Shirley, Dick, Diane, Ken, and Dave.
Climbed again March 22, 2001 with the OSAT GCC as a conditioner up the waterfall trail. In 2002 4 of us came back down the road, but in '04 we retraced the trail down. Saw two goats just south of the summit.
Did it again with the class of '04, but I don't have the date. This time it was up and down the waterfall trail.

Done with a group of fellow OSATer's as a conditioner. Great waterfalls. Summit was corniced. Fun.
Route Climbed: Via Mount Si Date Climbed: 17 October 2005
I had planned on doing either this or Mount Si. I ended up doing Mount Si, but then I felt like I still had a good deal of energy left, so I took the trail that departs Mount Si (near the bench just before the haystack) and traveled the 3 trail miles to the summit of Teneriffe. At first I blew right by the trail that goes up the ridge to the summit, because I didn't think I had hiked that fast (and I was in the clouds) - so after some backtrack, I found the trail and went for the summit. No views for me whatsoever and the wind must have been somewhere between 30-50mph with rain. Not pleasant, but I was happy.

This is a steep climb with no exposure until you get up near the top. Lots of loose rock and dirt along the way. If the falls is running it is a real nice place for a break. There is a route from Mount Si to Teneriffe, once I find it and travel it, I will post it.
