Great views
There is snow on the road starting at the cutoff for the lower trailhead. We managed to drive to the upper trail head with chains and 4x4. It will not take much more snow to make this impassible. Due to the lengthy temperature inversion, there is not a huge amount of snow and the trail is solid ice. I used crampons for the hike. Some sort of traction device is needed. I popped above the clouds at about 5000ft and the views were amazing. Total time round trip was around 5 hrs.

Townsend
I hiked the route up Dirty Face Ridge. This is supposed to be a less popular route but I saw a lot of people on it. Clouds moved along the ridge all day.

A nice hike up Townsend and the easy scramble up Welch Peak, which I recommend. Great views.

Birthday hike
This summit has the most amazing views of both worlds. I would absolutly hate to do this hike if there were no views. One direction is the sound and the other is the mountains. I had very clear skies so I was able to see Adams and Rainier. There was a third one that I think may have been Hood even??? Not to sure on that one though.

two of three trails
First time I took the Mt Townsend Trail, and personally wasn't taken with it. Then in '09 went on the trail from the Northeast side and enjoyed it much more, except for having no views and snow on the way down.

Very nice
Used the upper trailhead, pretty crowded on the trail, kind of a zoo on top, but still very beautiful. I gotta learn to not go on summertime weekends.

Townsend via the Dirty Face Ridge trail. Great easy to reach summit but go early to beat the crowds.

Townsend Creek
Greg P. and I made a day trip of it. The weather has been exceptionally good for late October and we had views of Baker, Shuksan, Whitehorse, Three Fingers, Glacier, Rainier, Iron, Mystery, Deception, and Gray Wolf just to name a few.
A pleasant afternoon stroll with a rewarding view of Seattle and the Cascades!!

Summit via Upper Trailhead
Nice little hike to get some exercise and check out a good view. I got a late start (4:30) but was glad I did as the trailhead was packed from the weekend crowd. Fun hike, and I liked the paved road for most of the drive in.
My husband and I have been up Mt Townsend many times. We tend to take route I,1. I recently took a girlfriend up there and she was in awe. Love the views.

Wow!
Perfectly clear day! Wonderful 360 panorama including views of Puget Sound, Mount Baker, Mount Rainier, Seattle skyline, and in to Canada.

Deep Snow
Road too snowy to drive closer than 1/2 mile from the lower trailhead. No one had snowshoed any further than the upper trailhead since the last snow. Trailbreaking in about 16-18 inches of heavy powder. Very slow going, so I only got about half way to the top. I'll try again later.
