Mount Union
Started my hike from just on the other side of Breezy Pines, a very quaint town nestled in the mountains, as that is where all winter road maintenance ended. Continued up E Poland road in the snow to the 5 corners intersection and shortly beyond that made a beeline for the summit. The off trail hiking was very difficult as it was steep and the snow was waist deep in sections. Overall it saved me a couple miles each way so I think it was worth it. Climbed the lookout tower but it was locked at the top. Great views out towards Humphreys but I didn't stay long as this was my last peak on my trip and I still had a 9 hour drive back to Salt Lake.

Pleasant hike from Potato Patch via trails 285 and 284. Nice views at the top. Saw a bobcat on the way down. Very cool!

With Redsplashman
Did a repeat of this one with Sacha (aka redsplashman). Sacha visited with the lookout while i signed the register located not far from the benchmark. We had spent the night prior camping at Lynx Lake and then followed that road to the gate. We exited via Poland Road which is very rough for the first 4 miles and then improves for the next 10. The shortest way to Mount Union from Phonenix probably but only if you have high clearance and 4WD for those last 4 miles.

Fun climb with interesting people
Climbed with my son Ryan and friend Bill Jacobs and his neighbor Steve Shenefiel. Drove up the Senator Road and then hiked the final mile from the locked gate. Interesting area with a lot of old gold, silver, and lead mines in the area. AZ CoHP #2.

From Poland Rd gate
Another one of those AZ county highpoints where the drive is much longer than the hike! It's only about 1 mile RT from the gate closure. There's a nice lookout on top, but you couldn't get to the top of it.

Mt Union from Poland Road
Tanya and I parked the Camry where the road gets rough at the FS boundary and started hiking up the road. At the Yankee Doodle Trail, we pushed up to the top and were greeted with incredible views and lighting on top. 1,400 ft. of elevation, and about a 5-mile hike

Great Hospitality
My son Travis and I hiked up the last stretch of road from the locked gate and had a nice visit in the tower with the Forest Service employee, John, who had been working up there since April he said. We signed the visitors' logbook and he showed us some of the tools of the trade and explained how they are used in reporting fires.

Easy hike from the gate to the summit. Found a yellow coffee can register by the LO with relatively few entries in it. Good views, especially from the wooden platform on the east end of the summit.

Took the 'back way'
My fiance and I drove up from Crown King and the Senator Highway - 4 hours, 25 miles. Easy hike to top in snow. Night in Prescott. Also visited in Oct 1999. Was able to drive to top back then.

The views aren't bad but thall that hardware up there sure spoils the ambiance! A surprisingly nice day for mid Dec. with no wind, no snow and temps in the 50's.
