Grandmas
After doing Wheeler. Met two grandmas at the summit who were crushing the ridge hike up from the north. Then headed down where a torso sized rock whizzed past me from above. If I had not stopped to chat with the grandmas, it would have taken me out. Don't know what knocked it down but it was flying by at high speeds.

From Wheeler
A quick jaunt (less than 10 mins) brought me to Walter’s summit. Headed back down the Williams Lake trail after. Great day out!

Pretty simple climb if you are already doing Wheeler.

On Way to Wheeler
Had to climb over Mt Walter to get to Wheeler Peak, the day's objective. But hey, Summitpost lists Walter as a separate summit, so might as well claim credit, right?

Second Time Around
First did Mt. Walter on the way to Wheeler Peak in 2009; the return engagement this year was to help other friends score both peaks. Although the Williams Lake route to Wheeler is shorter and evidently a more popular approach, I highly recommend taking the much more scenic Bull of the Woods Trail to Wheeler Peak -- you will get Fraser Mountain and Mt. Walter along the way -- and then returning via the now well-developed trail down to Williams Lake back to the starting point at the Taos Ski Valley (when I first descended to Williams Lake in 2009, the "path" was scarcely more than a narrow animal track -- since then, someone has gone to a lot of trouble to build a wide, excellent trail).

Along for the ride
Passed along the way to Wheeler Peak. Nice little peak; super windy on top.
Rachael and I started from Bull-of-the-Woods trailhead, summited Walter, Wheeler, Simpson, Old Mike, "Fairchild", Lake Fork and Kachina and then descended the ski area back to the car. Some fun scrambly sections between Simpson and "Fairchild" and again to get up Lake Fork. Long loop, not sure the mileage of vert but we took about 9 hours to complete it.

Nice side-trip
Nice little jaunt from the saddle of Wheeler. I mean, as long as you're up there, why not? Great views until the clouds rolled in.
usually done with Wheeler. I used to live in N.M. and did Wheeler peak almost yearly for several years…. sometimes even jogging the trail.

Sheep can fly
After doing Wheeler, Simpson, and Old Mike this was where I saw a sheep fly. He had been tranquilized by fish and game for breeding purposes and they flew him off the mountain slung under a helicopter. Not something you see in the mountains every day.

Good View of Wheeler
Neat summit in itself, and neat spot to rest before making the final hike to Wheeler.

On the way to Wheeler Peak
Ended up taking the Bull of the Woods trail up and the Williams Lake Trail down and hit this on the way. We weren't quite sure what the weather was going to do as some very early morning dark clouds appeared. Ended up being a nice day. Nice "false summit" on the way to Wheeler and a great day overall. Camped at the Twining/Bull of the Woods trailhead area.

Beautiful
Winter climb on the way up to Wheeler. No wind at all so it was fantastic. Big horn sheep to see as well.
