Washington and Ellinor - First Climbs
Went up the peaklet between Ellinor and Washington and decided to go up Washington first. One difficult spot for me (first climb and solo) but made it up OK, then back over to Ellinor and down.

Standard Route Climb
Slept in the truck at the trailhead and got a leisurely 10am start time. Turned some route finding problems into a bit of exploring, but ultimately the boot path is easy enough to follow. Scramble to the summit was less foreboding than some had described and the views were incredible! Had the whole thing to myself (except for a swarm of horse flies?).

What fun!
Wish I'd had a partner and a rope to keep exploring the ridge with. Still, a great climb!

Backyard Sramble
This is my favorite backyard class-5 scramble in the Olympia area. The view is spectacular and it has very interesting in summer rock various to the summit too. No crowds either, which might have something to do with the relentlessly steep and primitive climbers trail.

2nd try, 1st summit
Tried it 2 years ago with no route info but lost the way someplace. This time had the standard route info loaded on my phone and made it without any problem. I'm 68 years old, had a busy summer so haven't climbed or even hiked much, but still reached the top in under 3 hours. It is steep but not as hard, or exposed, as the route info suggests.

Again!
Took my dad up on a cloudy day, my fourth time up to the top.
Standard route. No snow. 1.5 hours to top. Perfect weather. Could see everything, even Seattle skyline. Saw less than 10 other people on the trail.

View? What view?
Very wet and white. The entire climb was done in clouds; the furthest we ever saw was one of the flanks of Mount Ellinor; near the top visibility was down to about 25'.

Washington's Birthday Climb
A group of us from Bremerton, Washington climbed Mt. Washington on George Washington's Birthday on Feb 22, 1958.
It was a long time ago so I don't remember a lot about the climb but don't recall having any problems. Perhaps it was a low snow year but it has been too long ago for me to recall.
Climbed twice via the standard route. Once in June 1991 in interesting snow conditions and again in August of 2002. Both times the weather was really nice.

Scouting Washington
After summiting Ellinor two weeks ago, I wanted to take a look at Washington. Ascended to about 4500' on the standard route, but turned back due to weather and extremely hard snowpack. I'll definitely be back later this year.

SW Ridge
With Moni & Paul Harper. My notes say: Cloudy - in the fog on top - no view.
Done this one 2 times. First one I did the Ellinor to Washington traverse, but don't remember when due to the deleted page... probably around 2005-7. Just went up again via the standard route and it was intense! Crazy vertical "trail" with some good scrambling. I loved it. Great hike, but not an easy one or one for novices.

Washington via Standard Route (Route 1)
Departed trailhead at 1300 and got to the summit at 1600. Mt Ellinor has been closed since 3 July due to aggressive mountain goats. I didn't see any goats on my way up. Good route, route finding was a bit tricky, and exposure on the summit block.

Years agoI've climbed Mt Washington many times. Always a good time, no matter the weather. I loved the old trails before they became 'human trails'.
