"Got tight last night on absinthe and did knife tricks. Great success shooting the knife into the piano. The woodworms are so bad and eat hell out of all furniture that you can always claim the woodworms did it."

From Crabtree MeadowsWe woke up early and left Upper Crabtree Meadows by 3:00 AM with headlamps cutting through the dark morning air. We spent nearly two hours on the summit enjoying the views and refueling before returning to Crabtree for another night of camping. Partners: The Crusty Bag-ettes.

Awesome TripWe hauled our gear up to trail camp, set up, and made the summit push the next day. All went well, except sunscreen wore off on the way back and I ended up matching my orange shirt. It was an awesome climb!

NIce way to end the JMTI can only claim the standard trail, as I am still waiting for someone with experience, like Diggler, to invite me to come along. Otherwise my first summit was a nine-year old and my most recent has been all eight of my south bound JMT's. I've slept up top seven times and . . . a few more weeks and I'll tick off #9

Brought the buddies with me!Fourth day of a four-day backpack trip that started on the Cottonwood Lakes trailhead out of Horseshoe Meadow. Up at 3am from campsite on tarns above Guitar Lake, long slog up the west-side JMT switchbacks, summit and descent to Whitney Portal car shuttle all in one day, one VERY LONG DAY! Awesome second summit, exactly one year to the day from my first summit.

An 8th Time up WhitneyMy buddy and I picked up a couple of the many unused day-use permits the afternoon before and were able to enjoy an unplanned hike of the Whitney Trail. Weather conditions were nice in the morning and deteriorated in the afternoon, fortunately mostly after we were back at the car. There were a few sections of ice around the cables on the switchbacks, requiring some care. On descent, we made quick time by glissading relatively soft snow the chute that drops down from Trail Crest. Overall, great day!

Mountaineers Route/Main TrailWith Brent, Andrew Ashcraft (our guide) & Nathan Box. Cloudless skies, excellent snow. 4+40 to Iceberg Lake - it was frozen solid. 7+16 total to summit which we had to ourselves the entire 1+ hour there! Took the normal trail down (5+15) but won't do that again. :) Loved the MR. Thanks to Andrew for his expertise. 2nd time at summit on 6-27-10, this time via the normal route (what did I say earlier about not using the normal route down ever again?). Beautiful day with cloudless skies and light breezes. On top with Brent, Todd, Zig, Barb, Benjamin and Kerri. 6+28 up, 5+28 down. #3 6-23-11 W/ Joe & Brent via Main Trail - attempted MR but high stream flows torpedoed the effort. Still much snow on normal trail - no switchbacks available at all! #4 6-22-12 A grand total of 25 feet of trail snow about 10 minutes before reaching the summit. 6+40 up, 6+02 down. Thanks to Steve, Robbie und Gustav and their unique "YZ" attitude. Please don't ask me to explain what that means! :). #5. 6-19-14. W/ Brent, Dave & Greg Clark. Beautiful day. 14+06 r/t. Oh IVD sehr.
