Solo success
Started at dawn and summited in about 3 hours. What a leg burner! After having the summit to myself (on a Saturday!) for fifteen minutes I descended the east ridge and summited Mascot Peak as well - nice addition.

First 14er
Not the easiest 1st 14er, but it was enough to get me hooked on peak bagging.

Denny Creek TH, Ascend SW Slopes
The weather cooperated, but I must say whoever "engineered" the trail for this route should have taken a refresher course on switchback use. Talk about straight up the mountain? Wow!

Yale from Denny creek
After a 3 hr 15 min hike I had the summit all to myself on a quiet morning before the storms. I ran most of the way down that good trail.

First 14er
For my first 14er had a difficult time keeping up with my bro. The damn guy played soccer for a top ranking D-1 college and was intent on proving it on this hike. It was good to be pushed like that though. Today, I can keep up, especially when I put rocks in his pack.

Southwest Slopes
Solo climb. Not a technical climb by any stretch, but for some reason my legs were more tired over the 7 miles of the Southwest slopes than they typically have been on other 14ers. Regardless, there were great views from the summit, especially of neighboring Sawatch 14ers Princeton, Antero, Shavano, Tabaguache, Harvard and Columbia.

Tough 1st 14er of the year.
Coming from lowlander county this was a tough 1st 14er of 2006. Roach was right when he said it would test your legs. Mine are toast. What a great view from the summit! (with Rick and Greg)
The trail on is easy to follow and over hiked and not maintained. For a mid-week climb it was very crowded. There was one large group of kids with some young adult leaders on the trail. Several of the young boys were trying to haul ass up to the summit. It seams that their gas tanks rain low because on my way down having spent 30 minutes on the summit they were still another 45 minutes from the top.

E Ridge
Did a big loop on this one, up the east ridge and down the other side. My one and only hitchhike in my life was that day, to get back to my car. Unfortunately it was snowing on top with no visibility. I hear there is a good view.

Route: SW Slope
Started from Denny Creek with husband Chad on way back from visit to Crested Butte over Memorial Day weekend. (Like we needed that after three full days of camping/mtn biking/fishing?!) A short and sometimes annoyingly steep/loose trail...but a very pretty one. I remember one tricky & somewhat exposed snowfield section...

Birthday Climb
Summited on my birthday as a present to myself after two failed winter attempts.
Route Climbed: West Slopes Date Climbed: June 1998
It took me 7 hours to reach the summit. Exceptionally windy and cold. I was the only one up there all day.
I took a couple of rocks and used them as brakes as I sledded down the massive snowfield on the West side. Natually, I got off trail and lost. I hiked down to the creek and followed it out to the road and walked back up the road a few hundred meters to the truck.

Very nice mountain. Short, steep, and direct SW route. Nice class 2/3 summit ridge with fun blocks to scramble around. Good views of other Collegiate peaks.
Route Climbed: Southwest Slopes Date Climbed: June 26, 2005
My wife and I climbed this with our dog on our first wedding anniversary. It was colder than anticipated, but a great outing with excellent views. To the best of our knowledge, this was our adopted dog’s first 14er.
Route Climbed: SW Slopes Date Climbed: July 29th, 2005
This climb was done in total darkness, with clouds completely socking us in. The route has changed quite a bit over the years, but is straight forward. The trail is well marked and easy to follow.

From Denny CreekThe hike was longer than I initially thought, but not too bad. Climber with a large group so it took a little longer than it would have otherwise.
