Ran from my house in Stonebridge over to and up Chimney Gulch and then took the Ridge from Windy Saddle. Super fun.

Up in the Snow from Windy Saddle
Hiked up from Windy Saddle along the social trail, which even exists in the winter. Going all the way to Mount Zion after ascending the first hill was a chore due to deep snow.

Mt Zion Father's Day Hike
Weekend trip to Denver to visit my older sister and we ended up driving up Mt. Zion. We'd done this drive on the Mother's Day weekend when I was up visiting her but I didn't entertain the thought of doing the hike...much as I wanted to. Since I was driving when we got to the Windy Saddle parking area I parked the car and told my sister I was going to hike the ridge and drop down to the "M" and then the roadway. I asked if she'd pick me up...no problem. I told her I'd be about a half hour or so. Actually took me 45 minutes from dropoff to pickup but it was worth it. The views were great and I took many photos along the way since I'm a shutterbug. The social trial is a nice hike although in many places there are lots of loose rocks so I recommend avoiding the loose rocks as well as wearing appropriate footwear. It was a great day for a quick Father's Day hike.

Mt. Zion
Disclaimer: The date is a guess but in the general timeframe.
I was living in Golden from 1975-1978 with a clear view of the
Front Range. I used to watch hang gliders launch off Mt. Zion regularly. My mom would take me up Lariat Loop Trail and I'd get out and hike around. I hiked the ridge line atop this mountain just once just because I wanted to see what was on the other side...it was a great view. I was always intrigued by the illuminated "M" and even fetched some discarded light bulbs from the area during that same era. I was in Denver these past two weekends (mid June 2016) and got some nice aerial photos of the area from the airliners I flew in. I wanted to have my sister take me up so I could hike the ridgeline again but it didn't happen either of these recent trips...I plan on doing it someday.

Windy Saddle
I wanted to hike up Chimney Gulch, but the lot was full, so I parked at Windy Saddle (I was lucky to get a spot there) and hiked around Lookout Mountain for a bit. I returned to Windy Saddle and hiked up to Zion from there. We've had a run of really nice weather the last few weeks, so there were plenty of hikers and bikers. There was still a little snow and ice in the shaded areas. Total distance was about 6.68 miles today.

From Windy Saddle
The second hike of the day for my wife and me. We enjoyed seeing Clear Creek Canyon from a different perspective and the ease of this quick ascent. We hit the 7,180' highpoint along the ridge as well.

7180 and Zion from Windy Saddle
Hiked up to 7180 and then up to Mount Zion. Nice weather and views of the Golden area and other mountains to the west. Hard to find a parking spot in Memorial Day.
Hiked it after a quick visit to Buffalo Bill's grave. Great views from up there too, although too crowded.

From Windy Saddle
This was the last peak of the day and all I could think about was a cold beer and some dinner! The winter sunlight was beautiful and the mountains were beautiful with a few fresh inches of snow (though the mixed conditions - ice, slush, snowpack, black-ice! - on the road were treacherous). Fun little outing!
