Overview

NE Wall

Among the mountains of the National Park of Abruzzo Lazio Molise and the Maiella, a system of mountains is extended, among which find the widest highlands of Abruzzo: the Piano delle Cinque Miglia, Primo Campo, Quarto del Barone, Quarto Grande that are extended toward Palena and the hermitage of S. Antonio.

The most elevated quota of the whole group is reached by the peak of the Monte Greco m. 2.285, that it is lifted between the Plan of the Aremogna and Barrea. Numerous other peaks of the zone overcome the two thousand meters high:Serra Rocca Chiarano m. 2.262; Toppe del Tesoro m. 2.140; M. Pratello m. 2.050.

M.Greco from Toppe del tesoro

it is surely a rich world of surprises for the excursionist, a stonesthrow from Stool, Roccaraso, Rivisondoli and Pescocostanzo, these tops also offer stupendous panoramas in winter.

A self-made, on field,...

Monte Greco in the highest mountain of the Marsica. It is just out of the limit of Abruzzo National Park.
Monte Greco is characterized by two completely different slopes. The western slope, is a little steep and round. The oriental slope, on the pianoro Antone Rotondo, is steep, rocky and ploughed by gullies that in winter offer possibility of climbings with ice-axe and crampoons.
The North ridge is continued with the rocky Serra Chiarano. This separates the two valleys of Chiarano and Pistacchia. In the Valley Chiarano we find the lake Pantaniello, small but very interesting for the particular biotype and many residual morenicis of the ancient glaciers. In the waters of Lago Pantaniello lives Tritone crestato and the very rare "Gammarus lucustris", a little crustacean residual of the last glacial era.
Monte Greco is an interesting destination of skiing excursions.

It is possible to easily reach Roccaraso from Naples (140 km) or from Rome (190 km) To reach Scanno is not so easy. The access is for the tortuous road of the Passo Godi from South or for the Gole del Sagittario from North (Tollgate of Cocullo A25)

Children

Children refers to the set of objects that logically fall under a given object. For example, the Aconcagua mountain page is a child of the 'Aconcagua Group' and the 'Seven Summits.' The Aconcagua mountain itself has many routes, photos, and trip reports as children.
