Overview

Mt. Shaw is the highpoint of the Ossipee Mountains. The summit features commanding views to the northwest, north, and east.

Getting There

Many trails lead to Mt. Shaw. Among the most direct routes are:

- The Mount Shaw Trail - Starting on Route 171, this trail leads up to the upper mountain carriage roads, which connect to the summit.

- The Banana Trail - Starting on McDuffee Road, this trail goes over Big Ball Mountain (also known as Tate Mountain and Blueberry Mountain in various publications) en route to the upper mountain carriage roads.

- The Thunderbird Trail - Starting on McDuffee Road, this trail is perhaps the most direct way to the carriage roads.

- The Gorilla Trail - Accessible from the Camp Merrowvista trail network, this trail passes over Mt. Flagg en route to the summit of Mt. Shaw.

Mt. Shaw can also be reached in the winter via snowmobile.

Red Tape

As part of the Castle in the Clouds complex, Mt. Shaw is only accessible during daytime hours.

Camping

Camping is not allowed in the Castle in the Clouds complex.
