Park Point is the high point of Mesa Verde National Park in S.W. Colorado. The park itself is filled with tremendous cliff dwellings from times long ago. Park Point is a short walk up a paved trail about 10 miles up the road from the entrance. The views from Park Point are spectacular and include Angel Peak NM, Shiprock, The Abajos, the La Sals, the Wilson Group, the San Miguels and The La Platas.
Mesa Verde National Park entrance is about 10 miles west of Cortez, CO. Park Point is located 10 miles up the main park road. There is a sign for a short drive up to the parking lot. We roughly figure a gain of 32 feet of vertical from the lot. This peak is not about the climb, it is about the view. There is also a fire lookout on top. If the ranger is there you can go inside and use the transit. There are two additional lookouts with heavy duty telescopes.
If people are at the gate, you have to pay the entrance fee or have the National Park card.
There is a large campground in the park.
