Nearby Larch

Nearby Larch Mountain comes in at #99 on the top 100 prominence list in the state of washington with 2324 feet of prominence. The summit has no views as it is enclosed by a deep forest canopy but you can find the benchmarks easy enough. I've actually been up there twice and the only way to feel like you can see something is to go to the top of Capitol Peak, which is a great viewpoint. For prominece peakbaggers (check the ones who have signed the register at Lists of John HERE, you get a feel for the popularity of Larch Mountain.

Very true.

Larch Mountain was my original destination during my first visit to Capitol State Forest. But the snow-covered forest roads proved too daunting for the little vehicle I took. I'll go back there, to summit Larch Mountain and possibly some others.
