Looks pretty cool. If this were in NH, Rick might have been targeting it! Good winter climb. Liked all the pix.

Good page so far, but could maybe use a little more prose on the overview section. IIRC, the Tom Floyd shelter is a few miles north of Compton right at the border of the park. In my day, this is where the self-registration station was located. Maybe this has changed in the past five years. The climb up from US55 is a steep one!

You seem to be ticking off each of the SNP peaks. Brown Mountain and Rockytop are two good ones if you're looking for suggestions. There's a nice two-day loop around them.

Thanks Charles! I think I am going to stay in the North part of the park for now and tackle Lewis Mountain, Betty's Rock, and Crescent Rock at some point when I have some time. Give me some more precise information, and maybe I can add something. I will do some research on the peak tomorrow.

Brown Mountain and Rockytop is a hike on the ridge heading west from around Loft Mountain in the southern third of SNP. From skyline drive, it's a nice ridge hike down the ridge (Brown Mountain) down to Big Run (impressive amount of water in the spring), then back up the ridge on the other side (Rockytop). Connecting to the AT on either end, this makes a nice 20-mile loop. Adkins "50 Hikes in N.Va" is a great source for this hike.
