Nice page, Karl. Thanks for putting it up. I'll have to hit this one sometime soon. Been thinking about it for a while and one of the few in Sullivan's green book I have not done yet. Even foggy days are nice in the mountains though (as long as you are not lost). :- )
Thanks Brian! There is something about a cold foggy gloomy day on the trail that's calming. Maybe it's the quietness. Even the birds seem to hunker down (maybe afraid they'll fly into a tree?). I prefer it in an oldgrowth forest or near the ocean. But one can't beat a clear sky while at the summit...
You are probably out right now bagging this one. Sorry so late in the response. I am running errands today but hope to get out tomorrow and do something. I'll look for the Echo Mountain page soon.......................
There is a sign at the trailhead saying this trail no longer requires a NW Forest Pass. Yahoo! They probably don't want the expense of having to check this trailhead, not many do this one apparently.
I didn't see any but I didn't look for it. There was a reader board and some sort of post left of the TH but the wooden thing there had been removed and there was a board on the ground. So, not sure.
Did main summit yesterday... beautiful hike. Many wildflowers still hanging in there, and views of every Oregon peak from Mt Hood to Diamond Peak. Lots of flies but no mosquitoes, and good cell coverage throughout (if you care about that kind of thing). Very few hikers (3 groups total) and one mountain biker. Will come back soon!

Untitled CommentGreat post. It's a shame they allowed so many of those lookouts to go to ruin.
