My Son (24) and I are planning on heading to Westcliffe (next Monday) to climb Horn Peak. (probably on Wednesday or Thursday) Long story, but, when Jake was in Jr. High, we went to Horn Creek (family resort) and we climb the week we were there and never made the summit. I promised Jake when he graduates from college, next week, we'd go back and tackle the mountain. I spoke with some local rangers today and they did it would be really hard to do the climb next week because of all the snow.
We are NOT climbers. (we're from MN - we play hockey! :) Jake is graduating from TCU and this was going to be a father / son / celebration deal. ANY thoughts on this, would it NOT be safe for us to try to make it to the summit?
It was a nice page, Mr. Downey. Sorry you trashed it, but I'm sure Ryan will do it justice. I enjoyed reading the descriptions about the peak because it brought back some good memories. I climbed Horn Peak years ago while attending a youth camp at Horn Creek Ranch. It had to be an easy climb, since they were taking up scores of little campers each week..
It's strange that because I voted before I took ownership of the page, my vote remains. Oh well, I think I did an okay job with it and I can't delete the vote, soo......
Hmm-I thought I had voted on this page back when the former maintainer had developed it. It's the pain of a failing memory! Thanks for taking this page on, Ryan. Great job!
I am very grateful for all the info regarding the Sangres that you have posted. Through all of your effort and the efforts of other members, I have learned so much about these beautiful mountains. I cannot wait until summer when I hope to return to the valley for an extended period of time.

Untitled CommentInteresting dominant peak from the east side. It is well east of the divide and looks quite impressive. Good directions and photos.

Untitled CommentThanks, Barry. Do you Texans use the Wet Mountain Valley to get to other places in CO, or do you just mean when you're in the area for some Sangres?
