I got caught in a thunderstorm while visiting Kitt Peak the first time. I swear: After it passed it was as if the gods had let me have a little peak at their kingdom. Unbelievably peaceful. And I wasn't carrying a camera. :-( Regardless, that sight and those feelings are etched into my mind for the rest of my life. I can understand why the Indians consider the area sacred. My son has that well-known image of Kitt Peak during a thunderstorm hanging in his room. --mark d.
Kitt Peak is just as prone to the summer t-storms as any peak in the deserts during the summer. Ironically however terrifying a thunderstorm can be (and I've been caught in a few myself, including two near hits), the time afterwards is amazing, almost cathartic!
