Glad to see this one go up. I really like the Oquirrh's and came very close to trying this one about two weeks ago but it started raining and didn't stop before I left to return home.
Thanks for the vote Dean! I'd never been to Ophir before - it was a neat little town to visit. I'd been thinking about trying to squeeze Flat Top into the same hike, but the snow was extremely soft and travel was strenuous even with snowshoes ... it would have taken all day and then some.
Thanks for the vote Scott. Seems like everytime I submit a new mountain you're the first one to sign the summit log. Are there any peaks in Utah you haven't climbed :)
Yes, many. I believe there are eight (maybe more; it was a quick look) on SP I haven't climbed. Bald Mountain in the Wasatch, Yard Peak, Dharma Peak, Owl Rock, Sister Superior, The Priest, UN 6275, Three Penguins, and Castleton Tower. There are hundreds of others I haven't climbed, but they haven't been submitted to yet. I'm still missing many of the 12'ers in the eastern Uintas. I think I've visited most of the ranges in Utah, but am still missing some such as the Newfoundland Mountains, Dugway Range, and some in the NW corner.
PS, are you joining us for Capitol? It will be a great trip, and you are welcome to come. You certainly have the experience for it.
I attempted Flat Top a week ago, and didn't follow directions very well, and parked my truck too early on the road that leads to the saddle at the base of the ridge that leads to Lewiston. I was planning on doing Lowe after Flat Top along the ridge. But what if you just wanted to do Lowe all by itself? What is the best route to take once you get to the town of Ophir?
I've only climbed Lowe peak once and that was also by the town of Ophir. It was a good route, but it was mostly snow covered at the time so I don't know if there would be a lot of brush at this time of year.

This was my first trip to the Oquirrhs; nowhere near as spectacular as the Wasatch Range, but it was good to see some new terrain. No crowds either :)
