I was wondering how long it would take for this one to be submitted. I just wasn't expecting it to be you. Are you currently close to Denver? This is a very good page for this mountain, plus your photos couldn't be better. The cloud cover really spices up the photos of this bulky mountain. Mount Silverheels has a serious reputation for its wind. I have read numerous trip reports concerning this issue. I will submit a TR of mine when I hiked Silverheels back on 4-28-02. To this day I have never been involved in high winds like i was on Silverheels, I'll never forget that day. I'm guessing sustained winds of 50-60 mph, it was really difficult to hike in.

It won't take me long for I wrote it a long time ago.

Wife and I took a "quick" long holiday weekend to alleviate withdrawal symptoms from our July trip. We are currently back in the "flatlands" of WI & the wife says I shouldn't get too used to the 4-day weekend plan....at least for the rest of this year! Was happy to have fresh snow & white clouds...although day 1 of 2 was mostly drenching rain! Did have windy conditions, but thankfully not as severe as I expected/others have reported.

Quite a distance from Ouray. But hurray for an interesting page for a centennial thirteener

and its closer to Ohio. The climb is an easy walk up so there are no excuses.

I've enjoyed your other mountain additions in the past but didn't vote on them because they are way outside of my experience. Here's one I know something about. Good job!

Awesome pics and great text. The clouds really made for a great day! With Colorado's fall weather getting unruly, our group may attempt this mountain instead of a more difficult climb we had scheduled. I'll suggest your route, 'cause it's the SHORTEST! Thanks for adding this valuable info to SP. Judging by the traffic and attenion ths page is getting, the addition of this prominent peak is long over due.

When I saw the name "Silverheels", I immediately thought of the guy who played "Tonto" in the "Lone Ranger" movie. That may be before your time but I've enjoyed this one and the great pics of it. Very nice job.

BTW, the actors name was Jay Silverheels.

Thank you for your vote and the informative links. I knew about the 1950s TV series The Lone Ranger but I was not aware of the movie or Jay Silverheels.
