I like to mention Andy's book whenever I can, because the book gives such a good overview, and many of us wouldn't know about these peaks if he hadn't first pricked our consciousness. Besides, he makes money from sales!
The names on benchmarks are... well, the names of the benchmarks. Often the USGS or CGS folks will simply take their starting point and stick it on the benchmark name. The name is just an index into the PID database.
