North Approach

Union Pacific RR has closed the crossing at the I-10 frontage road. I took a mountain bike and rode on dirt (rock & sand) roads about 3 miles to the canal.Took the first turn to the right when I got to the big basin on the north of the range. Parked the bike and walked along the north side of the canal fence for a couple hundred yards then crossed under the canal in the storm drainage tunnels. Then walked east on the south side of the canal for another few hundred yards to come to a bridge. Here the old mine road (now trail) heads south toward the mine and then the trail which was cairned in the ancient past by the boy scouts. There are some arrows painted in the rocks indicating the way up when you get to the steeper parts.
