Thanks Bor. Yes, the photos were the main reason, why I finally posted the page. But on the other hand the highest mountain of an island (at 2426m) sure is worth posting ;-)

Gracias Radek! To think that I went there only by accident - we were already retreating when the clouds broke up to reveal that fairytale rime covered landscape...

we were already retreating when the clouds broke

That was EXACTLY the case with our Sister Superior climb....drizzle on the approach but since we were 45 minutes into the 1hr approach, figured at least we'll go scout it out and take some pictures. Got there, had lunch, snapped photos...it started hailing and as we were getting ready to head back, there was a tiny break in the clouds. Just enough to lift our desires to say "let's go for it" :)

Well, we already had had a beautiful day with three (easy) summits. Then our trail went through sloping snow fields which were covered with an ice layer (all the rime). I had to crack it with my boots since we weren't equipped for ice (this was supposed to be the island of everlasting spring). When the fog lowered on the trail we decided to turn around and head for the car.

Decided to drive down a different road and when we reached the observatories suddenly everything was bright and blue. My eyes got bloodshot by all that light (did I say we weren't equipped for it?) but then I proposed to do the lame hike along the road to the summit. Only few people were there so it was worth it. And very fascinating to see that 17m Cerenkov Mirror up close.

The Canarys look more and more interesting. Good photos all and very useful satellite photo. Looks like a bomb hit and made the crater.

Thanks Mark! I'm sure this would have been a very massive bomb to explode that crater. about 150.000.000 cubic meters of material are gone...
