Well, in winter, when there is snow, it's a different matter. In fact, you need both ice axe & crampons for the last 200 feet to the summit. The slope there is around 35 degrees if you stay to climbers left. Otherwise, I agree with you. When the trail is dry, this is an easy class 1 hike.

One of my favorite peaks

We have done this peak three times. Twice as a day hike, once as a overnight. The later the best. Leave LA early Saturday morning, stop for breakfast at 58/395 junction. Mahogany flats trailhead about noon. Hike to the Saddle area about 5 miles from the trailhead. Setup camp, peak bag and back to camp. Easy hike out the next morning. While a dry route, it is worth carrying the extra water.
