As of April 2017, Longview Fibre Logging Company no longer owns the land to the east of the peak. The land is owned by Weyerhauser, and Forest Service Road 62 is gated right at highway 2. This eliminates motorized access to the gate on Forest Service Road 6221 unless you have an expensive motorized user access permit and the gate key from Weyerhauser. For the foreseeable future, the west-side route is probably going to be the preferred approach for most since it is about the same distance and doest require a non-motorized access permit.
