Rock formation?

Is this the same stuff of which Anakeesta Ridge in the GSMNP consists? I asked a ranger about climbing conditions on that ridge (Class IV and V) and he got really freaky, thinking that I was considering attempting it. I told him I'm not a rock climber and was just asking out of curiosity. He went on to tell me how crappy a climbing surface that crumbly stuff is and how the last two parties who attempted the ridge had suffered one fatality and several serious injuries. He went on to recount how one guy with a broken leg had to lie on the slope all night waiting for rescue as I reiterated that I was not considering the attempt, but was just curious.

At any rate, since he was so focused on informing me of the poor rock quality, is this the same stuff?
