Another Nevada "High Point" described in detail --- only 300+ to go ;-)

Well done. At the rate of "A Peak A Week" I guess we can look forward to 6 more years of Nevada high points.

P.S. The Tohakum pano has been updated to include Tule Peak.

Hi Spence, thanks for the positive vote. I don't know if 6 years would be long enough, Nevada has a lot of peaks. We've got an informal list, and we'll keep plugging away...

Informative page. This peak is a good way to kill a couple of hours. Nice views.

Question

Any idea how it got the name Tule? From your photos it doesn't look like it has tules (aka reeds or cattails) growing there.

No tules

No, I don't have any etymologic information for that peak, and there aren't any tules on there either. I hadn't really thought about it. Possibly the name has something to do with the Indians (Native Americans? I'm never sure what is PC) that live on the east side of the peak.

Route Access

In case anyone ever decides that they want to access from the north via Big Canyon (like I wanted to)... Good luck! Nice big private property ranch gates blocks access to the roads back there. Bummer... I didn't have a clue until I rolled up.
