Colin, I have read some harrowing trip reports, but I have to say that I do not remember this scramble putting up that much of a fight. You know the story in the Canadian Rockies, for sure a 5th class move here or there, particularly depending on which route you chose and of course horrible rock. But I just do not remember anything remarkable on Wapta except for the descent way down at the last rock band, and that is because I for sure did not take the easier way down. That was some slow lower 5th class down climbing. I put a photo up. On ascent, I came in high from the north, so was off route to begin with. Looking over my shoulder after I descended, I can see where much easier breaks are in this band. I have to do Mt. Field yet next year for sure, so would go back up and do Wapta on same trip if you are interested. Cheers Colin.
I have a lot to do there yet myself Melinda including a climb that Dave Edgars and I got weathered out on this year that climbs the falls via a technical rock route. This is a camping area for sure, one in which you want to take advantage of loop hiking/backpacking, particullary the Ice Line Trail. You can camp back in Little Yoho Valley and climb scrambles for days on end. Cheers.
Good job Dow, I wish I had enough time to read through all your pages and look at all your photos thoroughly. You must be an amazing mountaineer as most of your mountains seem to require large elevation gains and quite a bit of mileage.
