Norman Clyde's last time in the wilderness...Wasn't this Clyde's last backcountry trip in the Sierra?

Re: Norman Clyde's last time in the wilderness...Yes, this was the last time Norman was in the back country before his death in 1972. I understand he always was looking for a free meal from Sierra Club campers....

What a guy...& what a smile! A salute to Mr. Clyde, perhaps the most noted Sierra mountaineer! That's awesome you got to meet him!

Re: WOW!This photo was taken with Phil's Nikon by his good friend from Bishop, the late Don Calaway, during a brief visit to a Sierra Club high trip headquartered below Fourth Recess Lake. They caught Norman as he was eating breakfast that morning, It was the last time Norman was in the mountains prior to his death in 1972.
