Mt Everest

Mt Everest

Mt Everest and the Khumbu Icefall, as seen from the summit of Kala Pattar. The base camp is in the left bottom corner just above the black rock (you can see some colorful dots).

Beautiful!

Congratulations on this well deserved photo of the day! A beautiful moment - and well captured! I'm always fascinated again and again by this view one gets from Kala Pattar!
Many greetings to you, icypeak,

Re: Awesome!

Hi Kris, the base camp in amazing, a city within itself. I spent 2 nights there...with the glacier crackling under my tent and loud avalanches all night through..just fantastic!!

Re: Awesome!

Well hi there! The headlamps thing...your memory is too good for you own good! Hmm, not sure where Larry is but he should know that during this trip we mainly ate eggs, potatos and lentils for 3 weeks (the primary local diet)..that would have killed him.

Re: Awesome Headlamp!

Yes, yes, ...

I'm writing this from SE Asia. I'm very desparate for a processed hot dog right now.

For crying out loud! The only "cool breeze"
I've been feeling has been comin' off the
damn ocean! Shiver me timbers, mate !!!

In my next life, I will enjoy flying over a
glacier as a raven. Never under-estimate the
power of positive thinking ... : )

Congrats

to the Photo Of The week :-D Beautiful picture. What's the name of the summit just below Everest to the left? Pumori must be more to the left and much higher right?
Cheers. André

Re: Congrats

Immediately to the left is Everest West Shoulder. Farther left in Tibet is Changtse (North Peak). Correct, Pumori is off the picture to the left. It is lower than Changste and the Shoulder, but is closer and more dramatic when viewed from Kala Pattar.

Yeah, great photo.

Re: Congrats

Thanks Andre..it's very hard to take a bad picture over there, ok, there was the one I stuck my big thumb in, but otherwise impossible! And Nelson, thank you very much for the information, I appreciate it ..your pics of the area are super, especially of the sherpa sister and brother.

Re: Very Nice!

Thank you! Yes, a fantastic view it was, one I've waited to see for a long time. It's strange, I've read so many books on climbing Everest, but no one ever mentions what an effort it is just to get to basecamp...or what good luck it is to get there healthy. But, it was worth every blister! Hope you have a chance to see it one day.
