WOW WOW WOWWOW WOW WOW
Photo of the year! I don't think I've ever seen such a perfect lenticular cloud. And when I see them, I usually only see blue, and shades of grey. It's nice to see some green.
What a photo!

Re: WOW WOW WOWDon't miss that this is not my shot. Dennis Stilwell contacted me some time ago to see if I would be interested in contributing to his website, which I would like to do but haven't done yet. He's not a climber but a VERY avid hiker, so he isn't inclined to join us here. The other day he sent me this one and I asked him if he'd mind me posting it, to which he agreed.
The fun part about this is that I thought I recognized his name when he first e-mailed me. Sure enough he is in my college yearbook! :-)

Gives me shiversI'm so happy to see such a perfect lenticular caught on Hood. Last week we got caught in one camped at Twin Rocks. As benign as it looks, the winds completely flattened our 4-season tent over about 6 hours and then broke some poles. We were forced out of our shelter around midnight and descended in a whiteout, despite standing being a struggle. Scariest experience of my life.

Re: Cloud CapI wish I had Dennis's negatives again. With my new film scanner I could get much better results from them. I'll try to get with him sometime this winter and try again. He had several great photos, but they had too much contrast for the old scanner.

Re: What if...When I climbed Rainier a similar cloud was starting to grow as we descended. Some of our party were hidden in the cloud behind me. I don't know what it was like, but I suspect the winds were high and of course it would be white-out conditions. Not fun.
