St Helens was still intact when I took this picture. On the drive over we could see Hood from the top of the Blues near Pendleton. It's rarely that clear anymore.

Actually I'm a member of a group known in Boise as the "funhogs". We have no leader, no structure and we never meet except when we go on adventures. The only requirement is to show up, go and have fun. Membership lasts a lifetime and has no borders, time limit, gender, race, or age restrictions.

You just need to hook up with one of us before we go on our next adventure. Splattski and I have done trips that were planned exclusively by e-mail. On one trip we met up 550 miles from Boise at 9000' on the side of Boundary Peak without ever getting together prior to going.

If you never met the person, how would you
know if you could get along with them on a
reasonable level? ??

I mean, I'd hate to be stuck with a partner
who had a "magic glint" in their eye every time I turned my back on them.

That would give me the "heebie-jeebies!"

Maybe we're old school but I can't recall any of us ever being in a situation like that. That sounds like the stuff you hear about on the canned Everest expditions. In over 40 years we've never had an ice axe fight or anything like that break out while on a climb. We did use our axes to scare a bear away but that's another story (and it didn't work). We most often go ropeless and you'd be surprised how well we get along when there are no strings attached...
