Highest point in Utah outside of the Uintas. Summitted as part of Middle La Sal Traverse, from Tuk and Razor Fang. I think the Razor Fang deserves its reputation! Beautiful day, massive snowstorm the next day, though.
My wife and I made the top just as a storm built, so we hightailed it down. Our "mini-honeymoon", having been married earlier in the month.

Gorgeous Climb from Gold Basin
An excellent stop on the way home to Albuquerque from Portland. The climb was longer than I expected and the temperatures were also pretty high (50-60 degrees Fahrenheit). I started at 5:30 am and got down by 12:30 pm.

La Sal Pass
A memorable trip with Cliff Moser and Ruth Frear. While enjoying lunch on the summit we noticed a fast moving thunder storm heading our way. We made a quick retreat but not quick enough and were caught in a wild storm mixed with rain, hail and Saint Elmo's fire. Electricity was arcing everywhere so we took defensive positions and waited. Lucky for us that lightning didn't break loose and we survived to hike yet another day.
Route Climbed: La Sal Pass Date Climbed: July 4th, 2005
Parked at LaSal Pass and spent the night. Climbed this one in the a.m. with Dennis Poulin and son in law, Andrew Davis from Sherwood Oregon. Had a great glissade down the snowy couloir. Mosquitoes were rather abundant and moving fast was the only way to avoid them.
Route Climbed: traverse from tuk Date Climbed: June 11, 2005
traversed over from Tuk in fine spring conditions, mostly hard snow. descended back into gold basin. snowing lightly on top, no views to speak of. PICS
Route Climbed: La Sal Pass Date Climbed: October 22, 2003
I had originally attempted Peale in early June of 2003. I chickened out at the stream crossing with my VW and hiked up the road instead. Because of time commitments, I only made it up to the base of the mountain before turning around.
In October, I went back and drove through the creek in a rally car style. I ended up ripping off my engine cover...oops. Most of UT had been abnormally warm since early September, so I lucked out in the end of October. It was 55 degrees at the top, near sunset. Whoa buddy. The hike up and down was pretty easy with nary a soul in sight. I saw a coyote that had been killed recently (previous 30 minutes maybe). Perhaps it was a bad omen for someone?

Good hike. Got a little lost on the approach thru the trees, but once in the gully, steep but generally easy climb up talus. Very interesting, small, compact mountain range, outstanding scenery.
Route Climbed: La sSal Pass - via a direct shot to the peak Date Climbed: Sept. 14 2003
Stayed the night at the pass and started out for the couloir as mentioned in the route info on main page. Decided to hit the peak up the throat, should have taken the routes advice, oh well. Made the peak and took Razor's over to Tuk.

The road had just opened to La Sal Pass this past Memorial Day weekend. Drove to just short of La Sal Pass. I ascended the main west couloir. Snow conditions early in the day were ideal. Used crampons on the ascent up the couloir. (see trip report) It was such a nice day, I made the traverse over The Razor Fang to Mt. Tuk. Beautiful summits with outstanding views, although a little hazy.
Route Climbed: South ridge from Gold Pass Date Climbed: June 20 1998
Wish I had a map! On the climb I was postholing in 2 ft. of snow, then along a long, slow talus ridge. At the summit storms came up and I made a quick decision to head down the other side instead of across the ridge and then try to go around the mountain. I descended talus to treeline, then bushwacked until I found a trail, then a jeep road with no idea where it went. 14 hours later I was in the desert after dark with no water and 20 miles from my car when a camper took pity on me and drove me back.
