Grosser Muntanitz
I remember that date so well because it was on the same day that the Putsch had happened in Russia...I started in the afternoon of August 15th from the Landecksäge and arrived in the evening at the Sudetendeutsche hut. I had to wait a day for the weather to clear up, but the following day dawned fine and I went up the summit. I was amazed at just how easy it was technically, not more difficult than taking your dog for a walk, except for that ever so famous short descent from the Kleiner Muntanitz to the saddle over which soo much fuss is always made. In reality it's just a short scramble which is very well secured by a metal rope. I have to add though, that the Karl-Schöttner-Weg is just beautiful - "only flying is more beautiful", as the germans say. I went down by the direct path from the hut to Matrei i. O.

From Sudetendeutsche hutte
Almost winter ascent in May 2007. There was a lot of new snow, so it was slightly more difficult, and we had to use crampons and ice axes. Nice and completely without people.

Beautiful
My friend and partner Rafa has already said everything. I would only like to add that it was a perfect mountain day, beautiful landscapes and not too crowded an area.
We climbed this peak in the morning from the Sudetend.Hütte. The previous day we climbed Blauspitze and kendlspitze and with the ascent of Kleiner and Grosse Muntanitz we realized a perfect combination. The landscape was the best of the area with a great view of 360º of impressive mountains. The descent of the Kleine Muntanitz had a chimney of I+ with cable, it was the only complication of a nice route. It's a very advisable area to know the mountains of Austria (and OstTyrol) by the first time.
After this peaks we climbed the great Wildspitze (3772m) and the training and aclimatation was very good in this area. Amazing holidays in Austria!
Route Climbed: Dr. Karl Jirsch Weg and Karl Schöttner Weg Date Climbed: September 4th and 5th 2004
We decided to reach Muntanitz and Kendlspitze. We parked our car by the Felbertauernstrasse road at "Landecksäge" (ca. 1400 m) in valley Taurental. We started ascending on Dr. Karl Jirsh Weg to the Sudetendeutsche Hut, 2650m. We had a lot of rain on the route and we had to to take shelter on Kessler alm.
But then the weather became better and we successfully came to the Sudetendeutsche Hut.
I climbed to the Kendlspitze the same day..and I was watching very nice sunset.
Next day we ascended to the Muntanitz over Karl Schoettner-Weg. We was watching very nice sunrise.
From the top we ascended there where we came from.
