Near Pony Express trail

This Eastern Collared Lizard (Crotaphytus collaris collaris) posed for me as I was heading up Peak 6323 near the Pony Express Trail as it heads west from Lookout pass. 6-25-11

Love lizards!

Seems like hiking and lizards go together like wine and cheese. Wouldn't be the same without them. Great shot. CJ

Re: Love lizards!

This one was quite the poser. I was able to get several different angles of him and he seemed to be rather tolerant of my presence.
I've been trying to figure out if there is such a species as a "ring" necked lizard since this one was the first I've seen with those markings around the neck. Thanks for your comments.

Re: Very cool

Yes, I think Dean was thinking about the
Ring-Necked Pheasant.

Collared Lizards are too cool for school.

Re: Very cool

Dang, that WAS a lizard. Well, I'm just glad it wasn't a pheasant. Thanks Larry. : )
