Love the... THING... left foreground!

What an unusual-looking plant! Reminds me of the old sci-fi movie, "Day of the Triffids".

Thanks for sharing,

Big Lew

And it was a big plant too, taller than me.

I'm not all that good at determining plants, I'm afraid. It was on top of Cerro Machu Picchu (in case you want to have a look for yourself ;-)). On a serious note, this is at just over 3000m, which means that the vegetation is already a lot thinner than way down in the valley. Perhaps there a botanist around who can tell us what it is.

That's (the flower spike of) a bromeliad ... distantly related to agave. This one is in genus Puya, but I don't know the species.

I took these photos inside the ruins of Machu Picchu, only a few strides from the main entrance:

Re: Love the... THING... left foreground!

Thanks for the name. It's obviously the same genus, and, from the looks of it, quite likely the same species. I don't recall seeing it near the entrance though, only on Cerro Machu Picchu.
