Exciting little peak
Unexpectedly "gnarly" scrambling at the end, but views up top were outstanding. Sounds from ant-sized humans echoed through the multicolored basin with (shocking!) no wind to distract from the experience. Saw two other scramblers atop one of the Calico Tank summits, but they may as well've been 100 miles away.

New
She's ugly to look at but the views are worth the effort.

A change of plans
led us from a possible summit of Greycap, to another trip entirely. Maddie and I started at Sandstone Quarry and summited Point 5,142, off the far south ridge of Turtlehead. From there we descended to the saddle between 5142 and New Peak, then climbed New Peak. We then skied the path to the saddle between New and Kraft Mountain and climbed Ash Canyon back up to the saddle between 5142 and New Peak. From there, we traced our steps home. It was a burly little day, and I still managed to work a full shift that night!
Went up the red stuff on the S/SE side and met the E ridge near where the fun starts. There's an abnormal (for this area) amount of loose stuff on the red. Had to tread carefully.

Cool Peak
A fun climb with excellent views to some spectacular nearby peaks. The summit area was a little gnarlier than I expected.

Spicy up top
Climbed after Kraft. The scrambling up top is surprisingly non-trivial but it's on about the most unpleasant rock imaginable.
Again on 11/10/18 after Kraft. This time I ascended from the West side and it was much more pleasant. The descent on the East side still sucks. GPS tracks

After Kraft
Climbed New Peak after Kraft. Higher but not as interesting as Kraft, but great views. Descended back to Calico Basin via Ash Creek, which was very cool. Trip Report

From Sandstone Quarry
Originally intended to hike gray cap, but it was too hot for that hike, so we audibled to new peak from the west side.
Made it to the saddle at the west side which left like ~2000 feet to navigate to the actual summit.
Unfortunately, the 108 degree weather rapidly changed to a storm while on the saddle. We quickly scrambled down the mountain as it began to rain and thunder, taking shelter in a cave as soon as possible.
Was interesting with the elements, but will try in better conditions some other time...

Not so Calico
The approach from the East at the saddle is a steady climb up loose rock. At the top you get to walk a pretty good edge though. Do Kraft and New Peak the same day. Also, the saddle has a peaceful spot with two small trees to lounge under.

New Peak
Red Rocks was cold so few people were out hiking or climbing. Snow on the east ridge route from the saddle to the summit.
This peak is limestone and the scrambling involves sharper rocks than the neighboring peaks which are sandstone. However, still a fun peak if you're looking for a quick one.

part of a 3-5 peak loopThis mountain is about 15 minutes from my house. I usually combine it with 4 other small peaks in the area, and some down canyon routes.
