Nippletop
Did it out and back by the Leach Trail because was concerned the trail down to Elk Pass would be too treacherous. The numerous ups and downs really add to the elevation gain by the end of the day. Didn't get any views because of the clouds. Met a 7 year old boy with his parents on the summit who was on his 45th High Peak.

A very social summit
Spent almost an hour chatting with a father and son from upstate NY (originally from Seaford on LI) and then a father, daughter, boyfriend group who arrived a bit later. The view from the top made Colvin and Blake seem like an almost insignificant ridge line.

Nippletop Slide to Dial
We took the Nippletop Slide and looped over to Dial. Conditions were sub-optimal to say the least. This made for a tricky, and at points, scary ascent of the Nippletop Slide, as it was icy enough for need an ax, but the ice was not thick enough to get a good bite with the axes. Still, we made it without incident and had a fantastic weekend!
Hiked up Lake Road and took the Gill Brook trail, summited Nippletop Mt first, then Dial Mt and Bear Den on my way down. Great day to be out, lots of people on the trail too. Great views from the two boulders at the summit, really neat looking down into Elk Pass to Elk Lake, Dix Mt slides, and of course the Great Range.
Hiked Nippletop 4620' in the Colvin Range during a two day backpacking trip staying both nights at the Indian Pass campsite. Steep but enjoyable hike with great, semi-clear sunny weather the entire weekend. A few false summits later and we found ourselves at the true summit overlooking Ausable lake with Mount Colvin staring us in the face. Proceeded down the same trail we took up and then headed towards Colvin.
A wonderful hike, that was made interesting by the fact I had to carry a friend 6.5 miles down on my back! Totally worth it!

The Loop
Did the loop backwards starting with Bear Den, Dial, to Nippletop. Unexpected snow caused no visibility, however the Elk Pass hike down was beautiful. Many fantastic singing birds around the summit of Nippletop, something I've never seen before!

Winter conditions
Climbed Leach Trail and went down through Elk Pass. Nice winter hike! about 1 foot of snow at higher elevations. Crampons are needed if you go up from Elk pass.
