North End of the Hike

The junction of trails 17 and 18 is in the saddle at right-center. The trailhead is out of view to the left of this. The trail ascends to the first ridge lump, which is Cutoff Peak (6,844) then ends. The route then goes cross country on the next two gentle ridge points (6,955 and 7,060) before dropping into the saddle at left-center. From there the ridge climbs steeply to unnamed point 7,241 on the left margin of the photo. This photo was taken from near the summit of Smith Peak. October 2010.
