The Long Ascent
Used this standard route to hike up Black Mesa. Definitely a no frills trail, but it did the job. The area around Black Mesa is quite beautiful.

Nice easy senic trail
Could have been a made a lot shorter, but a simply hike.

Two State Highpoints, One Day!!!
After climbing New Mexico's state highpoint (Wheeler Peak) in the morning, I drove to Oklahoma so that I could complete a summit hike at it's state highpoint (Black Mesa) before sunset. This was an easy hike (more like a very long walk), which I completed within 2-1/2 hours roundtrip (including photo breaks, especially a lengthy one at the summit). I enjoyed beautiful weather, as well as great views from the edges of Black Mesa. I really liked & appreciated the construction of the summit's Monument. I encountered, and repeatedly got pelted by, the largest grasshoppers that I have ever seen. Roundtail horned lizards were also along the trail.

1 hour 22 minutes to the summit
Started out in 100 degree weather. Pushed myself to reach the summit by my predetermined turn around time and beat that time by about 20 minutes. Pretty good views on the way to the summit, but once you are on top of the mesa, the views are mediocre. Took me 17 more hours of driving solo to get home after this high point.
