Northeast Ridge
My CO 14er finisher!!! I was very tired on this one but pushed through. I think it felt harder due to fatigue from climbing Capitol the day before. The second gully is not a place to hang out - bad bad rockfall potential!! We witnessed a huge boulder blow down the gully and almost take out a group below. The chimney requires some actual climbing moves, which is fun. More technical than Maroon Peak, but less effort overall. Had dinner and drinks in Aspen that evening. 58/58

Fun!
Early start with Ben and Andrea. Made quick work up to the first gulley. Liked the first gulley a lot more than the second. Route finding wasn't too tricky except for near the ridge. Nothing was too crazy, but definitely felt like I had no idea where I was going half the time. The class 4 chimney was super easy going up but a little tricky coming down later. Just needed to better trust my holds. Fun peak.

Standard Route
I heard a lot of horror stories about this route and mountain. However, it was an enjoyable climb! The gullies were not as bad as reported and have clear routes. Class 4 chimney was a highlight even if it was a challenge!

...if good weather, make it a combo!
Taking the South Maroon route past Crater lake offered better footing. Traversed over to North Maroon Peak in 2hrs. Class 5 moves were fair & satisfying, while route finding through loose rock was not. Scenic descent (~4500'/5mi) over cliff bands, gulleys,& talus fields finished the day at 12hrs parking lot to parking lot. North Maroon Peak is the scenic side!
This was #54 of my list of 58 Colorado 14ers. We went guided because of the extension route finding. This has ended up being one of my favorites even though I have been pretty terrified of it. We had perfect weather and I was accompanied by perfect people, Michael and Ted.

Northeast Ridge
#1 07-01-2020. W/ Lana and Ted Mahon. Avoided 98% of lingering snow fields. Used ice axes crossing 2 short snowy spots but didn’t need crampons. A rewarding 12-hour day with ideal weather. On this particular mountain route finding can be time consuming so we hired a guide, Ted, from Aspen Alpine Guides, and it was worth it.

Standard Route
Great way to start July! Standard route is steep and appropriately challenging, as advertised. Goats on N Maroon are friendlier than on Maroon or Pyramid, though still pretty bold. Hot day.

One of the best weather days I ever experienced..
With CMC group led my Mark SIlas. Blue skies, light breeze, fun route. It is steeper and more consistently unforgiving (if you stumble) than folks' photos make it look. If you hunt around, solid rock is fairly easy to find. The crux is straightforward.

Y couloir
When it's in, this is a really fun, steep snow climb, which gets a bit more shade than the Bell Cord or standard north face. Trip report.

North Maroon Bell with a group
This was a guided tour with 5 folk, including one solid climber. We day hiked in, after driving over Independence Pass. Probably the prettiest country I'd ever seen, and ever may. Bluebird day. Everyone made it to the top.
