North "ridge" of Mount Powell

The north "ridge" of Mount Powell is flat and featureless until about 1.5 miles from the summit. You'd better have a good sense of direction and take note of the few landmarks there are, because in places this is all you'll see. This picture is at about 11800 feet. The summit is at 13159 feet. 5-14-2009

Re: Arctic tundra trek

My thoughts exactly. When I look at this picture I think it's a miracle that Lana and I got back to our snowshoes without having a problem.

Wouldn't this be

a cool spot to hide your 'geo-cache?'

How did you even know where your snowshoes
were? Everything looks the same !

I know - just put one foot in front of the
other. Damn, you folks are amazing! : ))

Re: Wouldn't this be

The problem I was worried about was sinking in, not finding the snowshoes. The area we left them in was a little bit more distinctive and I had set a waypoint for them. Never the less, until the gear is actually in sight, there is some small amount of doubt.
