North Ridge Scramble Section

North Ridge Scramble Section

John contemplates route options after our ridge hike abruptly reaches a cliff face. After a short side-traverse, we scrambled to the ridgetop above and then essentially followed the ridgetop for most of the rest of the north ridge. The short scramble option we located was a combination of steep and loose rockfaces and boulders. If the rocks had been wet, it would have been very dangerous due to the potentially super-slippery black lichen and fungi on many of the rocks. SIDE-NOTE: The true summit is seen in the top-center of this photo, but its location is not really as close and direct as it appears. Beyond this scramble section, the north ridge actually curves to the left (east) before winding back westward to the summit. Photo taken on September 7, 2013.
