North Toward Mgoun

North Toward Mgoun

This dawn view from partway up the east ridge of Point 1840+ looks north past Jbel Tadaout to the eastern end of Ighil Mgoun or Jbel Wawgoulzat, snowcapped on the horizon. The two large wadis in the foreground lead to what appears to be beautiful country under the south ramparts of Tazika Timaouarine. April 2012.

Re: Atlas Mtns ...

Yup--definitely a place that the "Crimson King" would enjoy! I was completely bowled over.

Re: Atlas Mtns ...

Well ... looks like you got a strike.

I've already been there several times in my
mind. In fact, my mind could use a bit more
expanding since settling in AZ.

The terrain

is much like Death Valley here.

Re: The terrain

I'm a big fan of death valley, and there's definitely some similarity. The Atlas throw off more springs than the Panamints, though, so you get these incredibly lush pockets, almost neon green, in otherwise bone dry country.
