Notch
Bagged Notch, West Notch, and Peak 11027 in the same day. West Notch NE faces have good rock for climbing routes.

West summit from Wall Lake
Got a little more than we bargained for with all the snowdrifts. What would normally be a fairly easy trip was rugged and adventurous thanks to the 4 to 9 foot snow drifts all the way to The Notch! After The Notch the snow was much more manageable since there was more sun exposure once we were out of the larger pines below. We backpacked to Wall Lake and stayed the night, no one was there due to the normal late snow the Uintas is known for.

East Notch Mountain from the Notch
After having summited Mt. Watson the previous day, we camped at Ibantik Lake, then climbed back up to the Notch and ditched our packs, then started the ugly boulder scramble up to East Notch Mountain. Well, only the first bit was ugly. We started up the southwest flank of East Notch, skirting east around the cliff band until finding a route up and through the cliffs. It was loose and steep, but after getting above the cliffs it was the usual boulder-hop to the summit. I stayed low below the remaining snow fields while my hiking partner went high, and I think I had an easier time of it--we both went low on the return hike. The view from the saddle was great, and even better from the summit looking down toward Ibantik. We found the geocache near the summit but I forgot to look for the survey marker. Saw some goats close-up upon returning to the Notch, too. Great scramble with rewarding views.

MOCKBA, Rob, and I started at mile 25.5 on the Mirror Lake Highway and skied a loop encompassing East Notch Mountain and Reids Peak. This is the second time I've been here. I've also climbed West Notch Mountain once in the past.

Nice peak. The climb up the ridge was mostly boulder hopping and not too difficult. Great view from the top. The summit register is in an old honey jar under some rocks.
Easy talus scramble on not too steep of a slope. With good route finding you can completely avoid any class 3 climbing. There was a section with a lot of rockfall danger so we took turns through it. Sweet views.

Nice, easy scramble. Great views of the western peaks of the High Uintas. Good hike for those who want to summit without worrying about exposure or too much danger.

Fun peak. It has great views of Mt Watson, Reids Pk, and Bald Mountain. Downclimbing the cliffs to the notch offered some fun class 3 chimney downclimbing.
