Thunderstorms
Started out as a beautiful day and we made quick time to the summit with a sea of clouds below us and some thunder clouds in the distance. Beautiful vistas from the summit. Best view of the Pfeiferhorn in my opinion. As we were descending the ridge we got surrounded by a thick fog and that's where the thunder and lightning came in. Turns out that same cell spawned a tornado. It was a hell of an adventure.

Nice Loop Hike
Decided to try to get in one last good-weather hike before the cold weather hit. Started by visiting the obelisk, then up to UPWOP, across Pfeifferhorn, up Thunder Mountain and down Red Pine. Gorgeous day and plenty of solitude until I was below the lakes. Excellent views from here.

From Maybird Lakes
10/30/2012 Under some snowy conditions climbed up to the Obelisk along the Hogum Divide. Traversed along the divide as far as I could before dropping back down into Maybird Gulch. From there I worked my way up Maybird to the headwall and climbed out to the ridge at the summit cone of the Pfeifferhorn. After climbing the Pfeifferhorn I descended by way of Red Pine.
9/8/2012 Climbed with WMC. Great hike with spectacular views and fun ridge scrambling.

first time with WMC group. I would have wasted a lot of time looking for the best way up.

South Ridge
Once reaching Maybird Lakes via the trail, the NE ridge as suggested here looked a bit out of the way, so I continued a southwesterly line through the boulder fields to a spot on the ridge between this & Pfeifferhorn. The scrambling from this direction north along the ridge isn't terribly difficult, but enough to keep one's attention. About 2.5 hours to summit from the TH for a nice half day outing.

Taking our time we climbed this from White Pine Trail head in 3.25 hours. Took a few pics and headed over to the Pfeifferhorn.

You betcha!
What a perfect day to get into work late. We started out heading up the main gully on the Northeast side, but the snow conditions were not great, so we moved onto the rock, and scrambled up. The views from this summit are incredible, and both ZeeJay and I climbed the to the very top to pose for pictures.

Gorgeous fall day
Climbed with Scott Wesemann on a beautiful November day plus 6 other times.
This summit packs a big punch for being so easy to get to. The views of the surrounding peaks, especially the Pfeifferhorn, are incredible! Climbed with friends John and Brian.
Years ago I gave this peak the name "The Bird" before I ever heard of the Obelisk name, if you look at it from parts of Maybird after most of the snow is gone it looks like someone is giving you the Bird! I've Climbed it about 5 times.
Went up the northeast ridge. The view is so awesome! You can see everything except Lone Peak. Got back to the car in 2:45, but 4:00 would be a reasonable time allowance.
This is the second time I have climbed this unusual peak. Solo the first time and three years ago, I had Brent and Lee with me today. It's quite a rock scramble from the lakes; we took a westerly heading directly up to the summit ridge. We topped out between the two places which seem to represent the highest points. North of the one of the high bumps is a "finger" pinnacle just waiting for someone to claw his/her way up.

Northeast Ridge
A great half day outing. There was some snow cover, but not much. Just enough to make things interesting. The final scramble to top out on the obelisk is worth the effort, if you're comfortable scrambling with a little air below your feet (the best way up in on the east side, with plenty of exposure down the east face, if I remember correctly).

Fantastic ski tour to the summit with a great line down the east face and smooth sailing down Red Pine Canyon. One of the best summit views in the Wastach.
