The photo showing Betty Lake in the foreground and Altair in the background doesn't reflect the latest story.
There was a big landslide on Altair Peak in mid/late July 2018. Looked like a bomb hit the upper slope, or God used his 9 iron on it. The debris from that took out a quarter mile or more of the trail hearing up from Betty Lake to the saddle over to Surprise Valley.
Lucky for us we were heading down from the saddle, so we were able to step-slide down the rock along the edge of the landslide. Going the other way looks to be a major pain.
